ANDERSON HAS GREAT START TO HIS DEFENCE OF BRITISH MOTOX CHAMPIONSHIP

28th February 2010
Maxxis British MotoX Championship Round 1

Sunday saw the First round of the Maxxis British MotoX Championship take place at the Little Silver Track just outside Exeter.

The weather gods were watching down on proceedings and while most of the country got soaked, the Devon circuit stayed dry even with the odd glimpse of sunshine. Considering the rain in the previous 72 hours the track stayed in great condition, throughout the day.

The new race formats came into play and resulted in some thrilling racing. New for the 2010 season is the introduction of a Superpole similar to that used in Superbikes. After 15 minutes of practice the fastest 12 riders entered superpole, each rider doing a flying lap with the best time getting pick of the starting gates in time order. Also introduced was the new 3 race format, with each race lasting 20 minutes plus 2 laps for MX1 and MX2 classes.

Fastest in Superpole in MX1 was Stephen Sword and fastest in MX2 was Zach Osborne.

So now the teams were ready to battled it out for the £ 96,000 cash pot available for the 2010 season. The racing could not have been closer with 5 different winners in the 6 races.

MX2 - The only double race winner of the day was USA rider, Zach Osborne (Bike It Cosworth Yamaha) who took back to back victories in the final two moto’s on a quickly drying circuit after finishing 4th in the opener. Jake Nicholls, (HM Plant Red Bull KTM UK) started each race well leading on the first lap each time only to be swallowed up by Osborne's speed. The final position on the podium was taken up by the chasing Martin Barr.

MX1 - Everything was set up for a thrilling last Moto and it did not disappoint, with the Podium places being decided in the very last couple of laps. New boy Russian CAS Honda rider, Evgeny Bobreshev, suprised everyone with his speed to win the first Moto comfortably. In the second moto Brad Anderson (PAR Honda) returned to winning ways with the fast chasing Bobryshev in second. In the final moto CAS Honda GP rider, Gareth Swanepoel led from the start to finish with Anderson recovering to make it to 7th Position and take the top steep on the podium by one point.
